For the most recent COMCOlidays with the Kids, COMCO Southeast Asia celebrated a Merry Purple Christmas with the children of SOS Children’s Villages, a private, non-political, non-denominational organization that is committed to providing well-rounded support, a loving family, and a close-knit community for children.
As part of its yearly outreach program, COMCO Southeast Asia and Camp COMCO Alumni Society hosted a virtual Christmas celebration with the children and youth of SOS Children’s Villages which included gift-giving, games, and a donation to the organization.
Every Christmas season, COMCO SEA’s annual outreach program aims to bring joy and happiness to sponsored children of partner organizations. The Little Angels Home, Inc. in Tagaytay City and Precious Heritage Children’s Home in Antipolo City were the beneficiaries of previous COMCOlidays with the Kids celebrations.
A few days before the virtual Christmas celebration, the COMCO Squadron paid a visit to the SOS Children’s Villages headquarters in Ayala, Alabang for the donation turnover, which included cash and items like pantry essentials, laundry and cleaning materials and hygiene products. Observing strict safety protocols, the COMCO Squadron was warmly welcomed by the aunts and uncles of SOS Children’s Villages and joined a tour of the community with Village Director of SOS Children’s Villages, Tatay Raymond.
Given the ongoing pandemic, COMCO Southeast Asia planned for a virtual execution of COMCOlidays with Kids, allowing COMCO to visit the homes and meet the children and youths from the House of Acceptance and House of Peace through a virtual holiday party.
At the start of the virtual celebration, Ruth Pascua, Corporate Relations Officer of SOS Children’s Village Philippines, introduced the children and youths from the two houses to the COMCO Squadron and Camp COMCO.
These children expressed their life goals and dreams, while the COMCO Squadron and Camp COMCO were also inspired to share their stories and aspirations with them.
All their wishes inspired Ferdinand Bondoy, COMCO Southeast Asia’s Regional Integration and Chief Executive Director and Co-Founder, who conveyed his advice on achieving dreams to these children.
“You are blessed, blessed pa din kayo kasi ang family hindi lang yan sa mga kadugo, nasa pagmamahal (‘yan). Bessed kayo na may pamilya kayo sa SOS, at kami rin, nandito rin kami para sumuporta sa inyo. Ituloy nyo lang ang mga pangarap ninyo. Mag aral kayong mabuti, tapos kung sakali mag-iba ang pangarap niyo, okay lang yun. Magtiwala lang kayo sa Diyos, tsaka sa mga nag mamahal sa inyo,” (You are blessed, you are still blessed because the family is not just with blood relatives, it is in love. You are blessed that you have a family in SOS, and us too, we are also here to support you. Just pursue your dreams. Study hard, then in case your dream changes, that’s okay. Only trust in God, and in those who love you,) he said.
The children and youths of SOS Village also created digital house tours for their aunts and uncles to see where they lived.
Gift-giving and fun activity games like Bring Me and Cash Landing on You followed with the Ates and Kuyas from the COMCO Squadron presenting each child and youth with a personalized gift to share the Christmas season’s joy and happiness. Christmas carols and festive dance performances by House of Acceptance and House of Peace youths and’ children would render the virtual Christmas celebration complete.
SOS Children’s Village provides family-like care for children in need, offering children another opportunity to build lasting relationships in a family set-up, in their own house and within a supportive village environment.
These families are guided by SOS mothers who are usually highly trained caregivers, fostering emotional stability and resilience in a supportive and secure environment. The mothers have the responsibility of guiding the children according to professional childcare guidelines and receiving the necessary support from the SOS Village Director and staff.
The SOS families provide individualized care and support for each child’s development, education, and health. When the SOS child becomes a young adult, they are transferred to a youth house until they are old enough to work and live independently. Since they consider their SOS family to be their own, they will forever be connected to them even as they grow up and leave the facility.
Finding your forever family – now that is one priceless gift that COMCO Southeast Asia is proud to support!
