Globally award-winning communications agency ComCo Southeast Asia, as it gears up for its 5th anniversary this 2021, has announced its recent talent acquisitions and staff promotions.

One of the Agency’s co-founders Carl Jan Cuevas rejoins the team (also known as the ComCo Squadron) as Deputy Operations Director, alongside the appointment of Abegail Genova (Senior Digital and Multimedia Arts Associate), Katrina Topacio (Brand Communications Associate), Alexandria Laberinto (Digital and Multimedia Arts Associate), and Gemma Casimsiman (Brand Communications Associate).

Additionally, the Agency is promoting its homegrown talents May Mercado to Associate Corporate Services Manager, Janela Bufi to Brand Communications Officer, and Matthew Escosia to Senior Integrated Communications Associate.

New Members of the Squadron

Carl Jan Cuevas is a seasoned communications practitioner with a holistic experience in strategic communications, account management, digital public relations, media relations, and editorial services spanning a varied range of industries.

As the Agency’s Deputy Operations Director, Carl will oversee Client Services and Account Management.

Carl is an advocate of Brand Love, and has provided strategic and media counsel for more than a decade for the biggest global and local companies and organizations such as P&G, SM Supermalls, SM Cinema, Electrolux, Cortal SQR, Philippine Airlines, WWF-Philippines, Philam Life, Payoneer, Riot Games, Scoot, Royal Caribbean Cruises, Avon Philippines, Abbott Nutrition, Wyeth Philippines, Alsons Power Group, and Republic Chemicals Inc.

Young graphics artist and animator Abegail Genova is returning as Senior Digital and Multimedia Arts Associate. A graduate of Bachelor of Science in Animation from iAcademy and 3D Animation and Design from First Academy of Computer Arts, Abegail specializes in cutting edge graphic design, visual storytelling, and animation. Abegail is an alumna of the Agency’s Camp ComCo Mentorship Program’s Cycle 12 as part of House Hawksbill.

Joining ComCo Southeast Asia as Digital and Multimedia Arts Associate is Alexandria Laberinto. A consistent Dean’s Lister, Alexandria is a graduate of Bachelor of Fine Arts and Design Major in Advertising Arts from the University of Santo Tomas. She specializes in traditional and digital arts illustration and graphic design.

Katrina Topacio is ComCo Southeast Asia’s newest Brand Communications Associate. She graduated with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with tracks in Management and Communications from the Ateneo de Manila University. Katrina also recently completed the Camp ComCo Mentorship Program course in its 13th Cycle and was under House Flying Fox mentorship house.

Finally, Gemma Gabrielle Casimsiman joins the Squadron as Brand Communications Associate. A graduate of Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts from the University of Santo Tomas, Gemma is also an alumna of the Camp ComCo Mentorship Program’s Cycle 11 and House Bearcat. She specializes in research, writing and content creation.

Promotion of Homegrown Talents

Finance and Administration Officer May Mercado has been promoted to Associate Corporate Services Manager. A graduate of Bachelor of Science in Accountancy in University of Perpetual Help GMA, May has vast experience in Accounting, Finance, and Administration and has overseen the various financial operations of the Agency.

A proud alumna of the Camp ComCo Mentorship Program’s 5th cycle, Janela Bufi now holds the position of Brand Communications Officer, moving up from Apprentice, Brand Communications Associate, and recently, Senior Brand Communications Associate. She is also the appointed steward Camp ComCo’s House Whaleshark.

Jam specializes in corporate, technology and healthcare PR and advocacy communications, as she worked for accounts such as Xiaomi, Teleperformance, Licealiz Anti-Head Lice Shampoo, The Medical City – Clark, Unilab Foundation’s Play Advocacy Week and Bayanihan for Wellbeing Conference, and Hapee Kiddie and Gumtect toothpastes.

An alumnus of the Camp ComCo Mentorship Program Cycle 10 under House Bearcat, Brand Communications Associate Matthew Escosia has now been promoted to Senior Integrated Communications Associate. Matthew took up Bachelor of Arts Major in Broadcasting at the Trinity University of Asia and was a consistent Dean’s Lister. He specializes in writing and content curation, serving as the Content Lieutenant of the Southeast Asian pop culture magazine SEA Wave. He has also worked for accounts such as World Vision, Dragonpay, Codapay, and Essilor, as well as other key digital accounts like Defensil, Unilab Foundation, and Licealiz.
